Rehabilitate and Thrive with Reformer Pilates

Feeling better starts with moving well

What is Clinical Pilates?

An exercise-based treatment that addresses the underlying problems at the root of many common injuries. Pilates is a series of precise exercises aimed at improving stability and endurance. It utilises a variety of different equipment including a reformer machine to guide movements. The basic principles include breath, concentration, control, precision, centre and flow. Our tailored programs are designed to address your individual needs while focusing on promoting optimal physical function while preventing injuries.

Clinical pilates is typically prescribed and supervised by a qualified healthcare professional. This ensures that exercises are performed correctly and safely, taking into account the individual's unique health status and any existing medical concerns. This personalised approach under the guidance of a healthcare professional distinguishes clinical pilates from general fitness pilates classes and contributes to its effectiveness in rehabilitation and overall well-being.

At West Osteopathy we are fortunate to have a clinical pilates instructor available 4 days a week. Dr Sarah Arrowsmith completed her training with the highly reputable DMA physiotherapy group.

What you can expect from our Clinical Reformer Pilates sessions

Reformer treatment
  • A 1 on 1 personalised and transformative experience guided by our knowledgeable Osteopath Dr. Sarah Arrowsmith, overseeing your pilates and rehabilitation sessions.

  • Meticulously designed programs to enhance core strength, flexibility, and overall well-being.

  • A supportive environment where each session is tailored to your unique needs, ensuring a holistic approach to fitness and rehabilitation.

Your initial session (60 minutes) will begin with a thorough functional assessment, followed by a series of guided exercises performed 1 on 1 with our practitioner. Based on your needs, further exercise prescription and home pilates programs will be prescribed.

In our clinic we utilise a specialised piece of equipment called a "reformer." The reformer consists of a frame with a moving carriage attached to springs, pulleys, and straps. Additional components include a foot bar, shoulder rests, and adjustable resistance settings. The versatile design of the reformer allows for a wide range of exercises that target various muscle groups, providing both resistance and support to enhance the effectiveness of pilates movements.

Clinical pilates sessions seamlessly integrate with our osteopathy treatments, fostering a holistic approach to healthcare. By integrating the benefits of reformer pilates with osteopathic principles we seek to not only enhance physical fitness but also support your overall well-being and rehabilitation.
